Thinks of things, then writes them down

Caution: The Words You Are About to Read may be Unfini

While searching for content to add to this website, I’ve come across some bits of unfinished writing that are both really good and really bad.

One of the samples I was going to use was from a short story I started about two years ago. Being recently laid off, it was about two people who had been laid off. (Write what you know, right?)

Within the story, I was trying to be too clever for my own good, and while there may be a good story in there somewhere, it would act as a horrible example to show off my skills. I have learned quite a bit since then and I’m truly embarrassed by that writing.

A positive side effect was an old novel of mine that was never finished. It was my first serious piece of writing (started, jeez, in 2004? Not really sure anymore). While I was perusing it for examples, I got enthralled with the world and characters I had created. It’s still in a very rough state, but I really want to go back, edit the heck out of it, and finish it. It’s going to take some time re-reading over 400 pages, editing while I go, but I think it’ll be worth it.

It was a both humbling and exciting journey through old computer files finding the adequate writing samples for this site. I hope I have put my best- and most interesting- foot forward and you’ll find something to your taste while reading my work; and then pass it along.
